The SCE Proposition An invitation, not a catalogue

We do not assemble safaris.
We curate Africa.

Southern Cross Experiences is a boutique travel atelier. Since 2000, we have shaped private fly-in safaris and heritage-led ground journeys for travellers who expect privacy, flexibility and route intelligence as a matter of course.

Every journey is individually designed — never selected from a menu. Routing, aviation logistics, camp selection and the degree of private access are shaped around an individual traveller, family or private group.

Private Access Where the journey begins — not the brochure.
Designed from Insight

Route, season, access and cultural depth shape every itinerary and programme we design — from private safaris and board-level corporate travel to international sporting programmes, multi-country fly-in expeditions and heritage-led journeys across sixteen African countries.

Founder & Director Doris Wörfel understands executive-level travel from the inside — first as a member of senior corporate delegations travelling at board and executive level, later designing and coordinating private African journeys and board-level programmes for senior corporate clients. That experience shaped her understanding of what high-level travellers expect: discretion, precision, seamless logistics, personal attention and the quiet confidence that every detail has been considered before the journey begins.

We have built relationships across the continent that no catalogue can replicate — with communities, conservation areas, lodges and aviation partners who share our commitment to travel with integrity.

German-owned and based in South Africa. Serving discerning travellers in German and English — from Europe, North America and beyond.

What shapes a private African journey

01

Private aviation, seamless routing

Distance is designed out of the journey. Private aircraft, scheduled fly-in transfers and handled logistics replace road-bound days and public terminals.

02

Hand-selected lodges & camps

A short, edited list of four- and five-star houses chosen for location, hospitality, conservation standards and the quality of their guides — never the size of their commission.

03

Route intelligence

Twenty-five years of shaping routes across sixteen countries. Order, pacing and connections matter as much as any single camp.

04

Season, access & pace

When to be where — and when not to. Privileged access, the right month for the river, the migration, the light, and a rhythm chosen by the traveller, not by a brochure.

05

Wildlife, wilderness & heritage depth

Wilderness woven with cultural and historical landscapes — ancient kingdoms, conservation legacies and routes drawn from a lifetime spent reading Africa.

06

Discreet planning, personal attention

One curator. A private brief. No call centres, no tiers, no rushed quotations. Every itinerary is built once, by hand, for one traveller.

Practical Guidance Before We Begin

A privately curated African journey is shaped by timing, access, routing, aircraft logistics, lodge selection and the level of privacy required. These early considerations help us guide you towards the right journey before any itinerary is designed.

  • 01

    Investment Level

Privately designed fly-in safaris vary according to aircraft routing, lodge selection, season, exclusivity and the number of travellers. We will guide you towards the appropriate level before designing the journey.

  • 02

    When to Travel

Africa is not one season. The right timing depends on wildlife movement, rainfall, lodge access, heritage sites, regional climate and the kind of experience you want.

  • 03

    How to Begin

The best journeys begin with a conversation — your travel window, group size, preferred pace, privacy requirements and the level of comfort you expect.

Routes to Inspire — Journeys to Design

These five itineraries are starting points, not fixed programmes. Each can be shortened, extended or combined — shaped around your time, your interests and the season that suits your journey best, within the distances and routing that the geography allows.

Standing built quietly, over twenty-five years

What began as private journey design for senior corporate travellers has grown into a practice that spans heritage tourism, institutional collaboration, and sustainable-tourism architecture across the continent.

SCE today reflects that dual standing: deeply personal in how each journey is shaped, and unusually substantial in its understanding of Africa's routes, institutions, landscapes, and cultural memory.

  • Currently Chairperson, African Sustainable Tourism Organization (ASTO)
  • 2025 C20 South Africa — Tourism Policy Co-Facilitator
  • Framework SICHT — Sustainable Indigenous Cultural Heritage Tourism
  • Recognition UNESCO “50 Minds for the Next 50 for Sustainable Tourism”

Every journey we design supports the communities, conservation areas and cultural landscapes it passes through. This is not an add-on. It is how Southern Cross has worked since 2000 — anchored in the African Sustainable Tourism Organization, the SICHT heritage framework, and the conviction that tourism policy must account for what is too often left out: Culture, Communities and Climate Change.

That conviction shaped our contribution to the G20 tourism policy process
— and it shapes every itinerary we write.
