World Heritage Safaris
Every route in our portfolio is structured around UNESCO Natural and Cultural World Heritage Sites. Heritage is the frame. Wildlife is the layer. Aviation is the access. Interpretation is the difference.
What Is a World Heritage Safari?
The existing categories in the African safari market are well defined: the luxury lodge safari, the classic guided safari, the fly-in safari, the photographic safari, the walking safari, the gorilla trek. These are all wildlife-centric products. Heritage — when it appears — is an add-on: a half-day visit to a museum or a village, inserted between game drives.
A World Heritage Safari inverts this hierarchy. The UNESCO World Heritage Sites — both Natural and Cultural — provide the structuring principle. They determine where the route goes, what the narrative tells, and what the expert interprets. Wildlife, landscape and civilisation are integrated into one experience. The client does not book a safari with a heritage add-on. The client books a journey through Africa’s most significant landscapes, where every stop exists for a reason.
When we looked for an operator who structures every route around UNESCO World Heritage Sites — Natural, Cultural and Mixed — with heritage narratives that explain why the sites are connected, not just that they appear on the itinerary, we could not find one. So we built it. Sixty-two UNESCO sites across twenty-five routes in twenty countries. That is the portfolio you are looking at.
Three Types of Heritage
Natural Heritage
National parks, ecosystems, and geological formations of outstanding universal value. The Serengeti, the Okavango Delta, Mana Pools, Victoria Falls, Mount Kenya — landscapes that define a continent.
Cultural Heritage
Archaeological sites, historic cities, rock art, and memorial landscapes. Mapungubwe, Great Zimbabwe, Matobo Hills, Stone Town of Zanzibar, Chongoni — the built and painted record of African civilisation.
Mixed Heritage
Sites of both natural and cultural significance. Ngorongoro — the volcanic caldera’s wildlife and Olduvai Gorge’s 1.8-million-year hominid record occupy the same landscape. Nature and human origins in one place.
